Who doesn't love to snuggle up and end the day with the calming rhythm of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown? I always choose this comforting classic to introduce classroom discussions of moons. After reading the story, I have the children close their eyes and picture themselves tucked in bed in their cozy room. What do they see in their room? What would they say goodnight to? Help them make a list, and then illustrate a picture of their room. This can follow with a discussion on different phases of the moon. Follow-up discussions: Who was the first man on the moon? How did he get there? What did he wear? What would it be like to walk on the moon?
